Environmental Writing and Illustration
(Dateline: Planet Earth) Your students can experience science/environmental journalism. Professionals investigate topics related to the environment:

In the "old days," Ms. B was called an animal reporter or outdoors writer. As the world grew more conscious of the state of the planet, the fields of environmental writing (or journalism) and illustration also grew. This is the place to examine the craft, history, and current state of environmental writing and illustration.

Other ways to find sources (or Special Species project advisors)

Search the homepages of local colleges, universities, museums, zoos, government agencies, clubs, and so on near your school. Many have public education programs geared to schools.

Ask for the Public Relations, Public Information, Community Relations, or Public Education offices. Explain why you are looking for an expert or advisor. Most people are happy to help.

Here are a few homepage examples:

Do not forget! You can see fine examples of writing and art in our very own Special Species books!
