This is a paragraph about the food and habitat of the black bear. When
food supplies are plentiful, bears may gather together to eat.
However, bears need large individual areas to eat in. Insects,
nuts, roots, fruit, honey, and carrion, or dead animals-all these
and more make up a bear's diet. Since black bears can climb trees,
they also eat pine cones, nuts, and even wasps' nests. Bears are
very good diggers and can capture small animals living underground.
Meals may include small rodents. They will also attack and eat
any wounded or sick animal. Black bears live in forests. Many
live in national and state parks in California. We have just told
you about the food and habitat of the black bear.
