Help Children Discover the Wonders of Science and Nature!

"In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, we will understand only what we are taught."Baba Dioum, Senegalese Naturalist

Be a mentor. The children of today will one day inherit the world. If you have knowledge and a little time to spare, please volunteer to become a classroom advisor (in person or through email).

The Special Species Project teams classroom teachers with caring, knowledgeable advisors in areas of nature and science. Advisors come from many walks of life, including:

  • Research scientists
  • Museum or aquarium docents
  • Museum or aquarium education department specialists
  • Wildlife rehabilitators
  • Park rangers
  • Environmental consultants
  • Master gardeners

We will maintain your contact information in our database (advisor application).

  • When a teacher needs to find an advisor in your area of expertise or locale, we will provide your email address.
  • The teacher will contact you and together, you can determine the best way to work with the teacher's class. This may involve a field trip, an in-class visit, or email correspondence, depending upon what seems most appropriate for your time and availability.

The project cannot work without the involvement of advisors. We will acknowledge you on this Web site for your help and assistance when the teacher mails us the material for that Special Species project.

Help children discover science and nature so they can write and draw what they have learned for other children. Thank you!
